Chartered Diplomat
Chartered Diplomat is the first ever professional standard established by Association of Certified Commercial Diplomats for diplomats. The award of Chartered Diplomat status to persons of outstanding intellectual ability demonstrates competence, integrity and professionalism and it also shows serious commitment to career and the profession. Chartered Diplomat provides qualified commercial diplomats with recognition of personal and professional achievements in attaining and maintaining high standards of knowledge, expertise, skills, professional experience and probity.
Eligibility Requirements
First Stage: One or more of the following:
- Doctor of Commercial Diplomacy, PhD or equivalent in Commercial Diplomacy or other diplomatic affairs related field (awarded by a recognized institution or international governmental organisation), with significant proven relevant professional experience (Senior Executive Level);
- Postdoctoral Fellow in Commercial Diplomacy; or
- Retired/Currently in employment/service with more than 25 years proven practical professional experience as a Senior Diplomat, Commercial Judge, Head of government, Senior Government Official, Senior Representative or Head of a diplomatic Institution.
Second Stage: Accreditation
Depending on first stage and proven practical professional experience, the following is required:

Depending on second stage, applicants may be required by Council to complete the Mastership programme.
*Most applicants currently in employment (Senior Executive level) with significant proven practical professional experience and or who have successfully completed the Mastership programme (Doctor of Commercial Diplomacy) or equivalent (other Higher Doctoral programme in a related field) are able (in most cases) to progress to the fourth stage depending on proven relevant practical professional experience.
Fourth & Final Stage:
Professional Review and Reference - (As required by Council)
Chartered Diplomat is more than just gaining a qualification, it's about developing relevant practical skills for life. Commercial Diplomats are competent, skillful and assured. They engage in trade negotiations, international arbitration and commercial and judicial diplomacy as competent professionals and lead organisations/institutions whether in the private, public or third sectors, at the highest strategic level. As part of Council requirements, candidates will be required to submit a Portfolio of Experience. The Portfolio should explain clearly the precise position they have occupied in each case e.g Commercial Judge/Arbitrator, Counselor, Senior/Chief Executive, Consul-General, Principal Officer, Ambassador, Head of Mission, Senior/Special Adviser, Minister-Counsellor, Director-General, Minister, Commercial Drector etc
The prospective candidate will be assessed on "competence, maturity, integrity and significant proven relevant practical professional experience to serve in an ethical manner". Candidates are therefore required to demonstrate competence, advanced knowledge, maturity, proven integrity and understanding of commercial/judicial diplomacy and its practical application. Successful applicants will receive a decision on election from Council.
